Bed Bugs Treatment

There are a lot of Bed bug treatment methods being used by many professional pest control companies, but the most popular is the steam treatment and insecticide with a mixture of d-Phenothrin, which is a non systemic insecticide that is effective through direct contact and as a stomach poison. D-Phenothrin is usually used in mist, power spray, thermal fog, ULV and aerosol applications to control human lice and Bed bugs. Other pest control companies have also began to use Chlorfenpyr that is non repellent and effective for a certain amount of time.

Heat Treatment

Bed bugs cannot survive heat and they are easily killed when they are exposed to temperatures of 115 degrees Fahrenheit (45°C) and over. The application of heat treatment requires the heat to be exposed as quickly and suddenly as possible otherwise, the change of temperature as it increases will allow the Bed bugs to make a run for it and escape. This can even cause Bed bugs to move into a next door neighbor in a building or another room in your house. You should also bear in mind that there are certain materials that are more resistant to heat unlike others such as your mattress, so if they are present in your room, the temperature will not be as hot compared to its surroundings. The heat should be about 115 degrees Fahrenheit and not more than that.

The most common heat application that is used in treating bed bugs is ThermaPure. This is a heat treatment that requires the pest control company to insulate your entire home or apartment and set up heaters throughout the home. The company will then bring the temperature inside the home to 115 degree Fahrenheit for a certain amount of time. Once the specific temperature has been reached for the optimal amount of time, the heaters are then turned off. The heat from the Thermapure system will have killed off any bed bugs inside the home.

This option is one of the more costly treatments that is available on the market. If the company uses the right procedures removal of the bed bugs is almost assured because of the heat in the home. If you are looking for a method that will eliminate your bed bugs without have to spray chemicals in your home this system is a good option.

Cold Treatment

Cold treatment involves a chemical free and non toxic solution to eradicate Bed bugs. As Bed bugs become resistant to pesticides in time, they aren’t so resistant when the cold treatment is used. In other countries Cryonite is used and this consists of an attached nozzle on an oxygen tank on wheels. Cryonite is carbon dioxide snow that can freeze Bed bugs upon contact. Bed bugs are killed once the snow crystals come in contact of their bodies and are converted into CO2 gas. This reaction requires energy retrieved from the Bed bug therefore resulting to ice crystallization from their cell water.

This certain treatment is highly considered as treatment can be done discreetly and even in the kitchen where food is being prepared and evacuation from the area is not required as well. There is no chemical smell or dust that can fall on the surfaces thus not requiring much cleaning. When used in businesses, regular operations can push through while the treatment is being done.  However, clothes will have to be bagged and washed with hot water, clean up certain areas and vacuum.

Items with Bed bugs can be placed in a zip lock bag into the freezer with a temperature of 26 F for a day. The colder it is the less time it will require to kill Bed bugs. Some hostels abroad have deep freezers for hotel guests who have experienced bed bugs. This is great for treating items like suitcases and backpacks that are more difficult to thorough clean and wash.

Steam Treatment

It is the most common method of pest control that can eliminate all stages of Bed bugs; however it may not be able to eliminate all the Bed bugs in the infested area. It is recommended that insecticides be used after a steam treatment allowing the insecticide to eliminate any Bed bugs that the steam treatment may have missed out.

As not all steamers work the way you would want results to be. It would be best to use a steamer that produces low vapor but high temperature dry steam. A steamer having a continuous flow is better to avoid reheat phases. It should also have a flow of multiple jet steam beads and not too powerful that would cause the Bed bugs to blow further into the cracks and cervices.

The steam treatment has to be done as closely as possible to the Bed bugs and the steam head must progress along of at least 30cm for every 15 seconds. The mattress or a pull out bed is the first place you should begin with carefully aiming for the seams and any other attachments it may have, couches and chair cushions must be aimed as well along its seams and buttons and strings. After ensuring that all these have been treated you can proceed to its surrounding areas. Just be careful not to have contact with electrical outlets or wires.

Smoke Treatment

Other pest control companies use smoke treatment as their main method of eradicating Bed bugs. They use a canister that generates a large quantity of smoke having Permethrin Synthetic Pyrethriod Insecticide. However, once the treatment has been begun, you will not be able to return to the house for at least 4 hours to avoid any health issues.

Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous Earth is consists of a fossilized shells from aquatic diatoms, making it a 100% natural and safe Bed bugs treatment. The dust of Diatomaceous Earth can scratch and cut through the exoskeletons of insects having a waxy substance outer layer that protects them. The Diatomaceous Earth can dehydrate and asphyxiate Bed bugs once it cuts through. It can last for a long period of time if it is left untouched and keeps on providing pest control in applied areas.

The Diatomaceous Earth will have to be sprinkled around the bed, especially in cracks and crevices and wherever the Bed bugs may live in. Bed bugs have said to be killed within an hour of contact.

To make sure that the Bed bug treatment is done properly and efficiently, hiring the services of a professional pest control company is better than having to stress more about killing bed bugs when you already have got more than just a handful of bites.
